“I Believe I Can Fly”

March 27, 2012

When man dreamed of flying, the conventional wisdom was that a vehicle lighter than air had to be created. As it turned out the vehicle that flies is not lighter than air, but one that uses the air’s resistance.

Life in all that it presents to us, presents resistance. It is from that resistance that we learn, grow, and get stronger. If we lift weights in order to get stronger, we lift heavy weights. If we accept and actually welcome that resistance, we will be able to sooner reach our dreams, goals, and purpose. We will be able to fly.

Lost Your Connection?

First check to see if all of your connections are securely plugged in. Check your connection above and your connections all around you. You may need to restore your original settings and do a re-start. Here are some other tips for restoring connection

“I’ll See It When I Believe It.”

March 12, 2012

Sometimes the signs are even more obvious than the story of the flood. They come in any and many forms. All that we need to keep us moving forward and growing are all around us. They might be a person, an animal or insect, something in nature, a song,…… .

One day a man was driving to a very important meeting. He was running late and couldn’t find a place to park. He became exasperated, so he looked up and said “G-d, if you get me a parking spot I will give one thousand dollars to charity.” He looked down and there was a spot. He looked up and said “Never mind, I found one. Thanks anyway.”

We’ve all heard the expression “I’ll believe it when I see it”, perhaps that’s backwards and should be re-framed to say, “I’ll see it when I believe it.”

“There are two ways of looking at the world. Either you see nothing as a miracle or you see everything as a miracle.” – Albert Einstein

“What Me Angry”

March 9, 2012

There isn’t an I in the spelling of anger. There is lots of I in the feeling and expression of anger.

When we are angry, what are we really angry about? Who are we really angry at? When we are angry, we forget that everything that happens to us happens for a reason.

We get angry because we take it personally. It’s not, and it is. It’s not personal because it doesn’t happen in order to hurt us. It is personal in that it happens for our growth. It’s for the growth that will take us outside ourselves and make us more available to serve others.

We forget that while we can’t see it, what’s happening is for our growth. We lose faith. It is then that we can remind ourselves to have the attitude of “This too is for the good”.

“A vain person is always angry at the world, because people rarely accord him the honor he feels he is due. A humble soul, however, is generally at peace with the world, because he feels he has received his fair share.” – Unknown

“When you’ve seen beyond yourself, then you may find, peace of mind is waiting there.” – George Harrison

“Only a life lived for others is worth living.” – Albert Einstein

Who Is Higher

March 5, 2012

A Rabbi (a real Rabbi) showed his students a picture of two people on a ladder, with one above the other. He asked his students which one was higher? After a short silence, he told them “that in order to know who is higher, we have to know if one was going up and if one was going down”.

To get closer to our full human potential means always climbing our ladder of life. We are always higher when we constantly climb, reach and aim higher.

Forgetting Yourself

March 2, 2012

What is your first thought/interpretation of the quote below?

“When a man forgets himself, he usually does something everybody else remembers.” – James Coco

Is it

a) When I react and let go of my rudder/soul, do I do something I wish I hadn’t?

OR

b) When I let go of the person I currently am and reach into my core/soul, I will do something I would be proud to be remembered for.

Think about why you chose whichever you chose.

Thoughts for answer a:

“Good judgment comes from bad experience.” – Elderly wise person

“The entire purpose of our existence is to overcome our negative habits.” – Vilna Gaon

For answer b:

“Our roots are our faith and commitment, our trunk and branches are our learning and character, and our deeds are our fruits.” – Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson

“In order to move forward you have to leave yourself behind.” – Tzvi Freeman

“When I let go of who I am, I become what I might be.” -Lao Tzu

“When I discover who I am, I’ll be free.” – Ralph Ellison
