True stories – A man gets hit by lightning twice in about two minutes and survives. Another man gets hit by lightning six times in his life (so far) and survives. What are the odds? Are you squelching your imagination because you think the odds are just too low for your dream to become a reality? Low odds are not zero odds, unless you make it so. Lights, camera, action…..

On this day in 1776 the Declaration of Independence was signed. It said, “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness”. This was a novel experiment in building a nation based on individual rights and freedom. Without these rights and freedom we could not pursue our dreams and our individual purpose. Something else to be grateful for! May we use our freedom to fulfill our greatest human potential.

Does a rainy day set your mood? Does a rejection or acceptance, perceived or real set your mood? In other words, is it external validation that you require? If we begin each day by being thankful and grateful for the gift of life and all its possibilities, we will curtail the need for external validation. Throughout the day if we remind ourselves that the gift is given for us to use all of our possibilities for the benefit of many we will have all the validation we need. This is especially true when we utilize those possibilities.

No Surprises

An athlete in a competition or a day trader during market hours learns to respond to constant and continual changes. They train themselves for the high probability events, but can be undone by the surprises. It’s no surprise that there will be one, it’s only a surprise in its form.

The winners learn and train to be prepared for the “surprises”. “Jack be nimble, Jack be quick…”. We can train for these surprises by being open to and constantly exposing ourselves to new stimuli. Neurologists have discovered that our brain can continually create new neural pathways. These discoveries remind us that our full potential remains ahead of us. Pretty exciting!

The Unique You

Each of us matters because we are here for a purpose that ultimately benefits all. Our purpose is unique and therefore we are unique. In order to discover and perform our unique purpose we sometimes have to eschew conventional wisdom and think for ourselves. We also have to go places others haven’t by ourselves.
