Swimming Pool Approach

June 23, 2011

Most of us fear risk. In things financial we fear the loss of money. In all else, the greatest fear that holds us back is of the unknown.

If fear of the unknown is holding you back from realizing your dreams and goals, then try the swimming pool approach. Wade into the shallow end and  slowly continue to the deeper end as you become accustomed to the water temperature of your unknown.

“Never fear shadows – it means that there’s light nearby”. – Pesach and Chana Burston

“With love, you set your goals. With fear, you set your boundaries”. – Unattributed

The Price

If you buy a stock, you know that in order to make money, you have to risk some money.

In all that we wish to achieve we must take risks, be it financial or otherwise.

Everything has a price. We don’t choose the price of what we want, we just choose whether we are willing to pay it.

“Take risks. You can never discover new oceans unless you have the courage to lose sight of the shore.” – Unknown

Things Could Be Better and They Will (cont’d)

June 21, 2011

In a previous “thought” (5/31) we looked at a homeless person with a sign that read “things could be worse, you could be me”. What if the sign read “things could be worse, or you could help me”? Sometimes our struggles cause us to withdraw into ourselves and get down. The surest cure is to get outside ourselves and reach out to another. At first this may only serve as a distraction from our worries, but eventually it becomes a good habit.

Weakness To Strength

June 20, 2011

The greatest of athletes still have a weakness in their game. A cyclist might be a great climber but a weaker sprinter. A basketball player may have a great outside shot and be weak on defense. They compete and play as much as possible to their strength, but if they want to strengthen their game they must develop their weakness into a strength. So too in our personal lives, we may begin with strengths but we always have something that we can improve upon. It is that constant awareness and desire to improve that will lead us to the human being we are destined to become.

“Strength is not the absence of weakness, but how we wrestle with our weaknesses’. – Noah Benshea

Mission Possible

Who defines what “impossible” means? Do you block your own imagination and dream by saying it’s impossible?

How many examples throughout history of “impossible” accomplishments do you know of? Think of one and use it as your inspiration.

Do you let others define your dream for you? How do they know? It’s not their dream, it’s yours. Sing along “To dream the impossible dream, to fight………” from “Man of La Mancha”
