Let Yourself Grow

March 24, 2021

The Jewish people are  about to celebrate Passover, remembering  their Emancipation and Exodus from many years of slavery in Egypt.  There are many valuable lessons in this celebration that apply to everyone.  Let me share two of my favorites with you

Here Is One

Many Jews chose to stay in Egypt, despite the brutal conditions of slavery.  Why?  The life they were living was what they knew, and despite wanting better, fear held them back.  No matter how uncomfortable their situation was, it had become their comfort zone.  Sound familiar?  Fear…. of the unknown, failure, success,……….

Here’s Another One

Jews are commanded to constantly remember the slavery of their ancestors.  More than that, they are commanded to remember it as though they themselves were there as slaves.

One of the universal messages of this remembering, is the lesson that while we are no longer physical slaves, we are still slaves. This time we are our own Pharaoh and the slavery is of the self-imposed spiritual and emotional variety.

We hold ourselves back from becoming the person we were created and meant to become.

We hold ourselves back with the “I can’ts” (see the inner-speak series). How we speak to our self and about our self, translates into who we are.  We each have inner the voice of a Pharaoh that tries to enslave us by saying “You can’t, You’re not good enough…..”.  We also have the inner voice of a Moses that can free us by saying “You can, You are good enough and more…..  Listening to that voice gives us the freedom to continually grow into ourselves and find joy.  Who would you rather listen to? Who do you really, really believe?

The only one who can free you now is you!

    Great post Fred!

This for me is an ongoing lesson. Those inner voices vary – some days I can barely hear them, yay! Some days they lead to Netflix and chill 🙂

    Warmly,

    Alison
